Accomplishments of the Ummayyads

The Ummayyad Khilafah lasted from 661-750 CE. The first Ummayyad khalifah, Muawiyah Radi-Allahu anhu, moved the capital from Madinah to Damascus. The Ummayyads unified the Islamic Empire. They made Arabic the common language and also made common coinage. Common coinage made commerce easier and gave the Muslims a sign of power. They developed a postal system. They lived simple lives and spread knowledge. The Ummayyads strengthened their army especially navy. The Muslim Empire grew during their time. It expanded west into Africa and Spain, and east into Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.
