Selling Dead Chickens as Poultry Meal

By Mufti Shafiq Jakura and Mufti M.D. Mangera

Q.)We are into chicken/poultry meal business and are also running a rendering plant where the animal and chicken wastage is disposed.

We are offered the dead chicken from the chicken farmers (as there are always some mortalities on their farm) for free of cost disposal and we prepare poultry meal using them. I would like to know whether the income generated from trading the poultry/chicken meal made by dead chicken is halal?

A.)  It is not permissible to own, sell or feed carrion (dead animals) to others. Hence, this must be avoided. These should be buried and disposed or could be placed at a place where some animal eats it without feeding it to the animal. It is however permissible to clean and take a fee for disposing of filth/dirt etc.

And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.
