Q.) It is common in mosques in America that the Qur'an and other religious books are placed on the prayer mat. Is this not against Adab? How important is Adab of the book of Allah?[Ali Mian]

A.) Definitely, to place the Holy Qur'an and other deeni books on the ground is against adab. A famous saying is that he who possesses adab is most fortunate. Many of our pious predecessors used to state that whatever knowledge they attained was through respect and adab for their deeni books and the Holy Qur'an. We also see the practice of some Sahaba, radi-Allahu anhuma, and also our pious elders, the way in which they showed love and respect to all those things which had some contact to deen, that before reciting the Holy Qur'an they use to kiss it first and then used to begin the recitation.
