Wedding in Certain Months or on Certain Days

Q.) Some people in the Indian Subcontinent take pains to select a date for wedding. They say they will not hold weddings in Muharram, or Safar or on certain days of new moon, full moon, Tuesdays, etc. etc! I used to think, and still do, that all days are made by Allah and one can marry on any day that is convenient to all. Is there any incident or tradition in the Ahadith that permits/prohibits wedding, or for that matter doing any good work, on a particular day or in particular month (especially Muharram or Safar)? Please explain in the light of Shariah. [Asadullah Syed]

A.) To refrain from any act, marriage, journey, etc. in some months, Muharram, Safar, etc. was a custom of the pre-Islamic era based on superstition. Rasulullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam condemned that by saying, 'Laa Safara' (There is no evil in the month of Safar).

There is no restriction on marrying in any part of the year and neither does any part of the year itself have any negative consequences.
