Q. My question is about those 'aamils who after asking someone's name and mother's name, claim that they make Istikharah Salah in order to find out if that person is under the influence of Jinn or evil eye etc.

As far as I understand, Istikharah Salah is accomplished when someone is unsure of whether doing something is good for him/her or not. But what I don't understand is how Istikharah Salah can help someone to find out the malady of someone else.

Would it not be more appropriate to offer Hajah Salah in this context?

A. You have correctly mentioned that Istikhara is for the purpose of seeking the correct stance to adopt in any particular matter and seek good.

The purpose of Istikhara is not to find out if any person is affected by jinn.

And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best
